Pie tests your app through its interface, the way a user does, so the framework or backend behind it doesn’t limit what Pie can test.

Platforms

PlatformWhat you give PieWhere tests run
Web, including progressive web appsThe URLA browser session at the screen resolution you choose
iOSAn iOS simulator build: a .app zipped with dittoiOS simulators
AndroidAn .apkAndroid emulators

Mobile apps are native iOS and Android. .ipa and .aab files don’t work. To produce and upload a build, see Prepare mobile builds.

Web screen resolutions

Choose one on the suite page, under How it runs. Add New Run shows the resolution of the suite you pick.

Frameworks and backends

Pie doesn’t depend on how your app is built. Examples of stacks behind the apps it tests:

AreaExamples
Web frontendsReact, Angular, Vue.js, Svelte
MobileNative iOS (Swift, Objective-C), native Android (Kotlin, Java), React Native
BackendsNode.js, Python, Java, Go, Ruby

For build preparation by framework, see Android, iOS native and React Native iOS.

What Pie does not cover

  • Load and performance testing.
  • Security and penetration testing.
  • Real hardware behavior, because mobile tests run on simulators and emulators.
  • Flows that involve several users at once. Pie doesn’t discover them automatically.
